16th Centruy - A Prophecy
2012 - Doomsday
Irene moves to London to finish her Film Studies BA, unaware that only a few blocks away lives a German man, 30 years older than her. He won’t have any relevance in her life. But not far from this guy lives another German, who will change her entire universe as she knows it. As foretold!
Irene does her graduation film and, in need of an Assistant Director, is introduced to Markus by yet another German. Makes you wonder where all these Germans come from? Anyway, Markus and Irene have a passionately professional relationship throughout the shoot, filled with hours of conversations on the topics of scheduling and shotlisting. Before the spark can catch fire, you need to find dry wood. And there was no dry wood or fire on this set. Health and Safety!
2013 - Life goes on
Irene forgets to invite Markus to her BA graduation short film that he helped her make. A last minute invitation and the promise of free drinks and many apologies lure Markus to the screening. They have yet again, only eyes for future professional endeavors. Spicy!
2014 - Professional Flirting Only
An uneventful visit to the cinema turns the wheel of time beyond infinity and reason, and sets the scene for what is to become a prophecy over 2000 years in the making. Markus hears Spanish shouting from across the lined up cinema ticket machines to find Irene have an unprofessional meltdown with the non-intuitive self checkout interface. The two sleuths realize that if they both go to the same cinema, they might live in the same area. In fact, they discover that no matter how often they moved around London, they somehow always lived only blocks away from each other.
Chance, destiny or stalking?
2016 - Cinema Lovers
Irene needs help with a film and calls the one person she knows can meet her within 10 minutes walking distance: Markus.
By the time Markus has arrived, Irene doesn’t need help with the film anymore. So now the two just hang out. There is a tippy tent, inside it is dry. There is wood, there is sparks and soon, there is fire. A passionate fire of romance.
2017 - Love Lovers
When you know, you know, so it was time to meet the family to get an idea of the whole package that comes wrapped up in romance, you know what I mean? Yeah, you know!
First Irene came to meet the whole Meedt family: an armada of grown-up kids with tiny kid minions, full of love and laughter and a slightly noob idea of what vegetarians eat. They instantly made Irene feel at home, and when it was time for the couple to return to London, Mama Meedt’s verdict was: “You two make each other laugh a lot. It’s important.” - Don’t I know it?
2017 April - Meet the Family
2017 December - The Way of the Tortilla
Next up, Markus got to meet the Lopez-Marco clan. From the short journey between the sombrero-armed airport pick-up to the Taqueria pitstop, Markus knew that Nacho, Titis, Bk, Danny and Reno are all synonymous with the word “home” and put them in a special corner in his heart, always and forever. Even if their ethics go out the window during a casual game of Domino or UNO.
And while Markus never had the chance to meet Erika, there is no doubt they would have gotten on like a house on fire.
Part of this trip also included surviving a hot-air balloon crash, but that’s a fun anecdote for another occasion.
2018 - Home Flipping
Markus and Irene move in with each other.
Everyone said it's too early.
Ha! Fools!
Covid happens and while the world goes through what seems a Mayan-End-Of-The-World prophecy, Irene and Markus have a weirdly cute time together.
2020 - Locked Up Lovers
With precision, German efficiency and masterful planning, Markus makes an absolute mess of asking Irene to marry him. But it is cinco-de-mayo and Irene is feeling agreeable! She says YES. At least one of them cries.
Then havoc ensues. As foretold.
2023 - Three letter word
2025 - End of the World as we know it!
Irene and Markus cordially invite you to the beginning of the end of the universe as you know it. A glorious, exciting, unpredictable future that not even the Mayans could imagine. Strap in! It’s going to be a wonderful ride!
